Description

i've been trying to think about my characters families more, so here's carmen's mom.

not gonna lie i'm actually kinda happy with this picture- like i gave up on the lineart like half way through (she looks like she's touching her own butt because i just got tired of messing with her arm and didn't want to draw her hand-) but i took a lot of time on the shading

Most of this information is irrelevant as she's really just Carmen's mom, she might get drawn once or twice but is otherwise not really a character, but I'm going to list everything I came up with for her because I feel it also helps develop Carmen, and even some other characters.
This will be all over the place and I'm sorry about that-

--

Her name is Marisol (unless I decide to change it, because I'm not too sure on it). Carmen got a lot of her personality from her (although she looks more like her father). They're both smart, friendly, and hard working, but also overemotional, arrogant, and stubborn.

She's a 42 year old housewife (Carmen is 19 for reference) with a few kids (no specific number as I haven't worked on any other than Carmen), but thanks to eating healthy, exercising, having a generally happy disposition, and knowing how to apply makeup, she looks a bit younger. She takes pride in her appearance, and very frequently over dresses. While she doesn't openly say it, she thinks most people dress like slobs, and silently judges people.

She, like Carmen, knows multiple languages. Her native language is Spanish, but she also knows English, Latin, and Russian. Is she a witch too? I don't know, maybe.

She generally prefers warm colors, but green is her second favorite color overall (guess what her first favorite is... )

She loves dramas of all kinds (she's even watched a few k-dramas) and romance novels. She's the one who got Carmen into them.

--

She hangs out with my other characters moms. Mrs. Yi (Lee, Jiao, and Jun's mom), Katrina (Mother of the MINT quadruplets, Alexei, Klementina, probably a couple of others, idk, she's got a lot of kids-) Karen (Lacy's mom) and Ruby (Pearl and Opal's mom), so let's talk about their relations!

Mrs. Yi: They have their disagreements but respect each other. Marisol often goes to her restaurant. One point of disagreement common for them is the way Jiao and Jun dress. They don't care about modesty at all, which Mrs. Yi strongly disagrees with (she believes skirts should go to at least the knee and shirts should show no cleavage, but the girls don't follow either rule unless they have to), but Marisol is much more of a "if you got it, flaunt it, just leave a little to the imagination" kind of person. She also isn't too sure about the fact that Lee is a lesbian. She doesn't hate Lee, or her wife, or anything (she is Catholic but she follows the "God loves everyone" line more than the "god hates all sinners" line), but doesn't understand it, whereas Mrs. Yi believes it's a phase that she'll grow out of, but she worries since Lee is already 30. Marisol believes that Mrs. Yi is a bit unfair to Lee in that respect, and they argue about that sometimes.

Katrina Volkova: They are like biffles. They both have large families (Though Katrina's is larger thanks to the quadruplets) so they understand each other well, and often offer advice to each other, they both love to cook, they both love cacti (although Katrina loves them much more than Marisol, Marisol prefers fragrant flowers), Marisol took the time to learn Russian to communicate with Katrina better considering her poor English skills, their children (Carmen and Tina specifically) have been friends for years, they're just very close. Katrina is a bit shy and not as opinionated, which, when surrounded by more opinionated women, often leaves her feeling unheard, and Marisol will often either encourage her to speak up or, more frequently, speak up for her.

Karen Akiyama: They generally get along well but Marisol thinks she's a bit too fake. Marisol is kind of fake too though sometimes so she doesn't have room to talk shit. She does wonder what kind of effect having a single mother who always works could have on Lacy, though, and if that is why Lacy is so aggressive.

Ruby Dumont: Marisol does not like her at all. She tries to hide it because she doesn't want to ruin it for everyone, but they are both loud and opinionated, so they do argue sometimes. Marisol thinks Ruby dresses like a slob, (and disapproves of her dyed hair and piercings), Ruby thinks Marisol is a slave because she's a housewife, Marisol thinks that Ruby is a bad mother and a bad catholic, Ruby thinks Marisol has too many kids, it's just back and forth with them.

--
and for the kids, I guess-
Carmen Garcia-Hernandez: They're very close. Carmen looks up to her mom a lot, and Marisol loves all of her children. Marisol has taught Carmen almost everything she knows, and Carmen is grateful to have her as her mother. Despite Carmen moving out, they usually spend at least one day a week together (Although Marisol is rather busy)
Lee Yi: Marisol thinks she's a nice girl, though doesn't really understand the fact that she's a lesbian. Marisol thinks she's too shy and wants to help her out of her shell a bit, but they don't spend much time together other than when Lee happens to be Marisol's waitress when she goes to their restaurant.
Jiao and Jun Yi: Marisol was kind of shocked by their appearance when they first moved in with the Yis, but has gotten used to them. She doesn't understand them, but she's amazed by their talent and she thinks they have a nice personality.
Valentina Volkova: (Skipping the other Volkov kids or else we'll be here all day) Marisol is almost like an aunt to her and the other Volkova girls. She probably babysat her and the other quadruplets when they were kids, and her children spent a lot of time with them.
Lacy Akiyama: Marisol is kind of scared of Lacy, (not hard, considering she's loud, large, muscular, and aggressive) but feels that her attitude is just because she didn't get enough attention as a child. She wants to try and help her but she also doesn't want to interact with her at all.
Pearl Spahr: She doesn't like that Pearl tries to avoid her family, family is a very important thing to Marisol, but considering how much she dislikes Ruby herself she understands it. She thinks Pearl is generally a nice girl but is way too lazy. She thinks Pearl's husband is a nice man though.

If you read all of this, or at least a large portion of this, have a cookie, in exchange for the amount of life I stole from you. :cookie:

EDIT: just realized that i misspelled Yekaterina's name like her daughter (and her name until I created Katrina), Katrina's, the whole time. Oops.
